40+ Sample Text Messages That Will Get You Real Responses

People read texts fast. It is frequently quoted that 72% of business messages are opened within five minutes and 83% are responded to within fifteen. Consumers also want a business to respond within an hour. No one reads a text backward. You get one shot. Your shot.

It’s a two way street. A bad text is read at the same speed as a good one, and ignored at the same speed. Here are 40+ example text messages you can steal, but first let’s look at why some of these work and some don’t.

Hi Marcus, we will fix your dryer tomorrow between 2 and 4 PM. Reply C to acknowledge. R to re-schedule.

Well, there are four things happening here.

He gets his name. Dear esteemed customer. It says dryer repair not “your appointment”. The time is given once and only once. And the end is a choice of two letters, where a limp, “let us know if you have questions,” would have done him no good.

The messages in this guide all follow that structure: a name, a specific detail, and a decision. If you don’t have these three in your draft, it’s probably trying to do too much.

Same Goal, Strong vs Weak Text

Most sample text lists only show you the good version which isn’t much use. Five common failures and how to avoid them.

#ExampleComment
1Quickie, hi Dana. Just wanted to follow up and see if there were any questions about our product. Anytime you want to reply. What’s holding you back on setup time or cost? The first is an earnest attempt at an answer. Secondly, it seizes a word,
2And remember we have an appointment with you coming up. “R to answer, change.”It’s easy to overlook. A fact with a next step action.
3✗ You have something in your cart. “Don’t miss out on this great deal!” Hi Priya, your cart is still available.
✔ Need the link again or help? Respond with H or L.
People back away when pushed. The best service is to give a choice.
4Thank you for your business! Thanks for being a valued customer!”
✔ “Three years already Mike. Use code MIKE25 to get 25% off your next purchase!
Thank you. Nice. Thanks, the code is improved.
5Still thinking about the demo Grace? X Kindly respond to the above at your earliest convenience.
“Or yes or no’s fine.
First, a fake email. Nobody on a text THREAD talks like that.

Check the trend. The weak ones tell a fact. They tell a feeling or state. The good ones give the reader a choice.

What the 2026 Numbers Mean for the Timing, Length and Frequency

Timing

It’s not really a timing problem as you would think. Most texts get opened within minutes, so the time of day they’re sent doesn’t affect response rates much. What the message does say

Frequency

Frequency is driven by opt-outs. People don’t leave because your message was irrelevant they leave because you text too much If you’re not sure if you should be sending something today or waiting, wait.

Length

Length also is present in click data.

Message lengthClick-through rate
120-160 charactersAbout 24.3%
Goes to a second segment19.6%

Another word is a little tax on the answer.

Employer Texting

Employers also are texting more. About 71% of consumers say they’re okay with an employer texting them about things like shift changes and HR notices, up from 58% in 2021. So it’s not a customer facing channel anymore.

Check Your Own Rules. Rules Changed in 2026.

This is not legal advice. A few recent changes will affect the way you write and send every single message over.

FCC’s One-to-One Consent Rule Is Dead

In July 2025, the FCC formally repealed the rule. On January 24, 2025 the Eleventh Circuit struck down the rule as arbitrary and capricious. The regulation was slated to go into effect in January 2025. TCPA still permits bundled consent and shared lead forms. And anyway, a lot of businesses have different wording for consent, because lawsuits cost a lot of money. If your platform or copy talks about one-to-one consent as if it is live, it’s out of date.

Unregistered Numbers Are Blocked, Not Filtered

As of February 2025, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon no longer allow unregistered A2P 10DLC messaging. These messages are not spam. They just go away.

One Stop, All Stop

One stop, all stop is coming. Not yet. One suggested change would mean that replying STOP to one sender would also stop messages from related senders. The effective date is January 31, 2027, because the FCC extended the waiver in January 2026. This is a time to prepare, not to ignore.

Carrier Rules

Carriers also have rules of their own. CTIA rules require texting to be limited to 8 AM to 9 PM local time. They will ban content on sex, hate, alcohol, firearms and tobacco (SHAFT) even if there is consent. They’re not federal law, but the carriers enforce them.

Quick Checklist

Most senders just use this handy checklist: Send your promotional texts from a registered number and remember to include an opt-out line.

How to Make It

Get confirmation of booking. My most common verbiage is “This is a reminder that you have an appointment coming up, please let us know if you would like to make changes.

Hi Sam, One thing that works: Your booking is for Thursday at 15:00. Reply R to reschedule or STOP to optout.

You have a name and a fact and a choice.

Most teams find this difficult when their volume goes up – keeping track of opt-outs, quiet hours and number registration gets much harder. If you run MessageBlink, SMS and WhatsApp are natively automated within Salesforce so an opt-out reply is written to the contact record immediately and that person is skipped in any subsequent send.
